Human Nature: Good or Evil?

The answer to such a question can help one to understand how they view society, and the people around them. Personally, I usually reject the idea of true black or white so to speak, however if I had to answer, I would say human action in the past has shown a trend of behavior that could definitely not be considered compassionate or caring. Although there are many communities that work together without exploitation, and there has been since recorded history, the selfish instinct amongst people is present in most, and is usually acted upon if they are given the chance to. I would argue that the reason why we see such greed and debauchery amongst western society, but not as much in let's say, American Indian culture, is that members of the tribes weren't or aren't given the same freedom to act outside of the community's wishes.

Marxism, or any political system aimed at insuring success for all runs against this instinct amongst people, and therefore cannot be expected to be accepted readily amongst all peoples. This explains why such a logical train of thought, one that ensures comfort for all, has still not been realized in the entirety of human history.

The answer, seems to be to make it in people's best interest to help their common man. If there is a socialist government in place, surely it is easier for a person to go along with it, pay their taxes, and work for the good of all while receiving what they desire, to some extent, than to organize a uprising in an attempt to change the entire system. In this way, I doubt the effectiveness of socialism working in a complete democratic system, at least while the people are so uneducated.

A persons actions and beliefs are a result of their upbringing and experiences during about the first 20 years of their life.

My stance is ignorantly evil:

In a world that is ever expanding and moving at an increasignly faster pace, I think it's only natural for human beings to strive to better themselves for fear that they will collapse into what they perceive as the "general" population. I say this because personally I work hard everyday to better myself, raise my standards, and become more marketable, and I'm doing it in a system that may be deceptively corrupt but elastic enough for me to feel like my hard work can bring me more than a standard issue meal coupon.
It is a beautiful but fairly generous thought that we can exist in a harmonious society where the needs of others are equal. It begs the question of what are we coming to in this world of excess that insists upon propelling only thyself, completely ignorant to the fact that progress is a structure; rarely can this structure maintain itself on the work of merely one person or on a grander scale, a family. And I agree it is selfish, but we are a nation of sheep, and I can't help but fall trap to it and ignore it even. When I imagine my future, it doesn't consist of helping the down and out sector, but I just assume that I will, which is ignorant on my part. What is stopping me from pre planning it is that it is frustrating, the scope of problems doesn't seem at all within my grasp, so I do nothing.
It's like the economic crisis, it follows the pattern of people doing what everyone else is doing because they're comfy! our nation as a whole is saving when we need to spend as part of a national stimulus but we instead save every stimulus check or buy foreign cars which brings me to my point that marxism can have novel ideas when it comes to maintaining a society that is self sufficient and equally prosperous.

But instead we live in a society were I'm gonna drive my Volkswagon, and I'm gonna save my income tax returns for fear of monetary loss in the future.
Does this make me evil? greedy?

No, just a black and white young woman trying to find an identity in a society where I'm educated enough to know that there are more than enough traps designed to make me fail.
Yet im optimistic, which i will admit is decidedly so greedy at times.
